York Fair Week: Don’t Just Stop In Gettysburg
Cats: Gettysburg|The fair started on September 5 and runs through September 14 so you’ve still got a good five days left to enjoy one of Pennsylvania’s treasured events. Tonight you can hear American Idol star Phil Stacey sing “If You Didn’t Love Me”. And if that doesn’t tickle your pig then tomorrow night you can hear Jimmy Wayne croon. Both events are free. There will be other free concerts throughout the week at York Fair.
Today is Wendy’s Student’s Day, which means students and scounts get in free from noon until 8 p.m. Free events will be going on all day.
Tomorrow is York Community Courier Day. September 11 is WSBA Day. September 12 and 14 are Pre-School Pals Day and Baltimore Sun and Coca-Cola Day, respectively. You can find out what each of these mean at the York Fair website.
Special guests at the York Fair this week include ZZ Top (7:30 p.m. tonight), Brooks and Dunn (7:30 p.m., Sept. 11), and Danity Kane (7:30 p.m., Sept. 12).
The York Fair was the first fair in America and has been continuously running since 1765 except between 1862 and 1865 when the fair grounds was used for hospitalizing wounded Union soldiers during the Civil War and in 1918 when a flu epidemic killed 166 people in York.
If you came to the area to visit York Fair and you have an extra day, visit Gettysburg too. Both towns have historic roots and significance during both the Civil War and America’s fight for independence.
