Every now and then I like to sit and watch the trains in Gettysburg go by. There are folks in town who actually offer train tours. You can take the train in, around, and through Gettysburg and see all the local sites from aboard the express. Only it’s not so express.

The scenic train tours take you by the battlefields and other historic sites so that you can get a view of the historic places from a different angle. They run most of the year so finding a ticket is not too difficult. Though in the summer months it is best to plan ahead as this is the busiest season for tourism in Adams County. Train rides include the scenic train tour, ghost tours, Murder Mystery Dinner Train, and the pedestrian special (which is my favorite because I can sit on a curb and watch and wave as the train passes by).

Just kidding. If you’re looking for a unique experience of Gettysburg, catch the train!
