October Blush: Apples You Can Taste Before You Eat Them
Cats: Adams County, Farming, Small Towns|The nursery, located in Aspers, Pennsylvania, is home to what is called October Blush, a new breed of grapefruit-size apples that are yellowish-green and taste sweet and tart. Great for baking, it is said.
October blush gets its name from two of its better-known characteristics: Ripe for picking in late October and the red blush in its skin. The breed was discovered by accident, as legend goes, when a Pennsylvania farmer known as Lingenfelter decided not to cut down a tree that seemed to be growing in the wild. It is believed that October Blush may be a hybrid of two other types of apples. Well, whatever it is, it sure is good. I’d find some if I were you.
