The word is out. If you some of the biggest and tastiest apples ever to come up out of the ground then Adams County is the place to go. The Adams County Nursery, to be exact.

The nursery, located in Aspers, Pennsylvania, is home to what is called October Blush, a new breed of grapefruit-size apples that are yellowish-green and taste sweet and tart. Great for baking, it is said.

October blush gets its name from two of its better-known characteristics: Ripe for picking in late October and the red blush in its skin. The breed was discovered by accident, as legend goes, when a Pennsylvania farmer known as Lingenfelter decided not to cut down a tree that seemed to be growing in the wild. It is believed that October Blush may be a hybrid of two other types of apples. Well, whatever it is, it sure is good. I’d find some if I were you.
