March 4: Pennsylvania Day?
Cats: History, Pennsylvania|In case you’re needing another day to celebrate something, I’m not sure Pennsylvania needs a state holiday. But if it does then March 4 is as good a day as any. William Penn’s date of chartering the land is as good a day as any, I guess. But what advantage would Pennsylvania Day have on tourists to Gettysburg?
Unless Gettysburg Borough residents take it seriously and actually adopt the celebration day, nothing. But it would be nice, I think, to celebrate the anniversary of Pennsylvania’s chartering. After all, it is a historic date. But all I can think about this time of year is Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Looks like Pennsylvania Day will have to wait until after the New Year.
