It’s Thursday, Do You Know Where Your Sheep And Goats Are?
Cats: Adams County, Farming|To tell the truth, I grew up in the city: Dallas, Texas. I know city living. But I was in for a real shock when I moved to Adams County Pennsylvania and discovered rural living. For one thing, the mountains are beautiful. But it’s not all great photo shots. You also have the challenges of everyday living.
One of the challenges we’ve been living with in the last few days is a group of cows getting out of the fence. During the last big weather storm we had a tree fall on an old shack behind our house. It knocked down the wire mesh fence that was keeping the cows in. But we didn’t know that until one day when we looked out and found a cow in our front yard eating the fresh grass. At least we didn’t have to mow!
So my wife and I went out and strung up some electrical wire for a fence to cover the hole that was caused by the tree falling. We tried re-erecting the wire mesh fence and covering it with brush and sheet metal, but the cow still got out. Damn cow! So that’s when we decided to string up some electrical fence and run it through the trees to connect with the rest of the fence. It worked. No more problems with cows getting out of the pasture.
If you live in the country as we do, do you know where your livestock is?
