The big news in Gettysburg this year is the new Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center and Museum. Opened in April this year at a cost of $103 million, the center is nearing the 1 million visitor mark, and that includes President and Laura Bush who visited last weekend.

While the rest of the country is focused on memorializing the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Gettysburg residents are planning for the big splash later this month when public comment will open for a proposal to add visitor fees for the museum and other facilities at the building. Also planned for later this month is a grand re-opening of the visitor center and an unveiling of the Cyclorama, a huge historic piece of artwork located at the visitor center.

If you’re in town on Sept. 26, stop in see the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center and Museum, before they raise the prices on you.
