If you are planning to visit the new Taj Mahal of visitor centers, the Gettysburg Battlefield Visitor Center, then you’d better do it before October. The center administrators are planning to start charging an admission fee starting that month.

The Gettysburg Foundation is the organization that suggested charging $7.50 admission to participate in some of the center’s amenities. Until now there has been no admission fee to enter the center and watch the popular Cyclorama and to see other museum exhibits, including the 22-minute feature film. Even the museum galleries have been free to the public.

About 1,500 Civil War relics are on display at the visitor center museum.  Since April when the visitor center opened, there have been about 1 million people enter the visitor center and museum. The public is allowed to comment on this new change in policy, which is subject to approval from the National Park Service.
