The York County Heritage Trust and York Daily Record/Sunday News are sponsoring an essay contest. The contest is open to third through fifth graders, sixth through eighth graders, and ninth through twelfth graders.

All students must submit original work not previously published. Younger students, grades three through five, should write 300-500 word essays. The sixth-eighth grade contest is for essays 600-800 words. And the older students should submit essays of 800-1,000 words. The essay for third through fifth graders should be about a Continental Congress delegate who attended the York signing of the Articles of Confederation. Students in grades six through twelve should write essays in the form of a letter home as if they were a delegate to the Continental Congress explaining what was happening in York at the time.

The deadline for the contest is October 31, 2008 and $250 awards will be given to the winners. For more information, visit the York Daily Record website.
